Honey Nut Cheerios

Does honey nut cheerios help lower cholesterol? So many people eat cheerios since on the box they advertise saying it helps lower their cholesterol. After seeing this advertisement everywhere on the boxes, so I was curious to know if it really does lower your cholesterol. I mean, how can honey, something that sweet, lowers a person cholesterol? This cereal shows that it is very healthy to eat. It has so much good source of calcium, 13 vitamins and minerals, which is made with real whole grain (which sort of makes sense), and HELPS REDUCES THE RISK OF HEART DISEASE. Who knew something so good and extremely sweet, can help your body so much. I think eating this cereal might help their body. It tastes good and benefits your body from bad health. Hmm, doesn’t hurt to try it out, right??

Is education worth it??

In class, we were summarizing, annotating, and reflecting an article, “Education reduces blood pressure.” I didn’t know at all that if education is part ones life, than it benefits their health a lot. It is said in the article that the more education a person has in their life, the less health problems they are going to face in the future. The British Heart Foundation have done a study to prove this as a fact as well. Who knew education was that important.

After summarizing the article, we have to annotate by saying when was it published and how it was published and much more. The article was objective with backed up facts and proofs that were done in a form of study. It was written by the BBC News and the news is very recent itself.

If I were to research on if education is worth having, than this would be a great article. This shows every aspect of how the education is worth it if it reduces a person’s stress level. This article would be perfect when doing the research paper since it is recent, backed up with facts for the study, and shown to be proven fact. One good way to start a research if someone is doing their paper on if education is worth having.

Proposal…I live to eat.

 “You are what you eat.”

For my second portfolio, I would really like research more on the topic of how food around the community or anywhere else affects a person’s body and/or their health. I would like to know why do we have so many fast food places around here? Are they any good for ones health or are they all bad? Any advantages or disadvantages to them? I have so many different questions and would like to get an answer by researching more on this topic. From what I have seen around this community, I see nothing but fast food restaurants; Burger King, McDonald’s, KFC, etc. So my question is, are any of these benefiting a person’s health when they eat these sorts of food? If not, than why do we have so many of them and not enough good, healthy restaurants? I believe this is really bad for the community if they are not found to be at least a little healthy.

This topic is really interesting to me. It’s interesting because I love to eat. Some people eat to live, but me, I live to eat and would like to know what I eat is healthy or not. I try to eat healthy as possible when I’m in college, but always end up eating fast food such as McDonald’s and Taco bell. So it really got me thinking that if I eat all this fast food, how is it going to affect my body in the future? Am I going to be obese? Am I going to face any health problems such as cholesterol, or high blood pressure? How is it going to affect me if I keep eating fast food every single day of my college life?

I already know that fast food is extremely bad for you. If you don’t look at what you eat, in the future, obesity is going to take over your body. I also know that there are so many of these nasty, oily, greasy, fast food places around the community, including on and off campus here at UNCP. If a person doesn’t exercise often, than it eventually will lead to bad health, and sooner or later, maybe even death. If you eat fast food every day, there is, without a doubt, going to be consequences in the future. I would know this for a fact from my own family background experience.

I think for this research, I will need to find out what’s being served in these fast food places and are they healthy enough for ones body?  I can look at all the different kinds of sources from books to articles to journals on the internet. I believe I will find so much information on the online database. It’ll give me tons of information on what the critics are saying about fast food places. I’ll find what other sources think about having fast food places around the community or generally, anywhere. I will try to find people who are dealing with obesity today to tie in within my research and how it affected them. I want to know, is fast food worth having around in our community or anywhere else; and if so, why is it ruining a person’s body if they eat it?

Coming up with the topic

I didn’t know what to do for my second portfolio. In class, we had to pick a topic and the professor taught us an easy way to get to our topic. We just had to pick something we like to do, or what interests you. From there on, we had to come up with a question how it relates to the community. It was kind of interesting where one thing leads to another thing. I liked that idea. I pick food, since I live to eat and from that I came up with the question of obesity in our community and how it’s affecting our health. All the fast food places around the UNCP campus. I thought it was really interesting. I think I would use this idea to come up with my topic for my other classes if I ever have to write a paper in for.

A magical wooded cup!

Can just a piece of wood carved out in a cup form and putting water in it and leaving it over night, reduce the weight of your body? I was watch television the other day and I saw on the advertisement something really “magical” The trick to losing your “body weight” is that you put water in this wooded cup and leave it over night. In the morning, you’re actually supposed to drink and it and this will eventually reduce your body weight. Is this true? NOPE! IT’S NOT TRUE AT ALL. I know this for a fact because one of my uncle’s ordered this so called “magical cup” and did the experiment of leaving water over night. The next day when he went to drink the water, the water “magically” disappeared. Why?? Because the wood evaporated all the water in. So, can a simple cup made out of wood reduce your body weight? I don’t think so. If you want to reduce your weight, you have to eat healthy and exercise three times a week. People waste their money on these stupid things. Why? That is because they want the easy way out and still be able to eat junk food and not exercise. Yeah right, as it that’s going work. Maybe in their dreams.

College students staying up all night to parties and doing homework. Is that affecting their health? I think, that is a major health factor. Students should not be staying up all night just to finish something or partying. I understand if it happens like once in a while, but staying up every single night just to party, I feel that’s just wrong. Some students also stay up all night just to finish their homework. Instead of procrastinating and waiting till the last minute to finish your homework, why don’t you just do it few days before its due? It’s going to be way easier than just waiting till the last minute. This way, you will not get sick or anything. I think students are the control of their own body. Its up to them how they want to live and stay up all night or not. If you get enough sleep and party on the right days and time, i’m sure they’ll be fine and nothing to worry about their health.

OVER THE TOPP… 5 pages??

REFLECTIVE ESSAY?? LIKE 5 PAGES?? Are you freaking kidding me?? Doing the interview and the summary/timeline is as if not enough but we have to do a reflective essay and that also five pages? I think this is ridiculous. I understand if it is like a page or so, but I think doing five pages of behind the scene work is just over the top. I really didn’t like the 5 page paper we have to do for this portfolio. I feel like it’s too much. Next time, maybe we can decrease the page numbers to like I don’t know, one to two pages. I  believe that sounds decent rather than doing five pages of repetitive stuff.

Portfolio 1

For the portfolio 1 project, I thought it wasn’t that difficult; except for the parts of the interview where I was a little nervous, but other than that, I thought this project was fun to do. I feel like I learned a lot from just one simple interview I did with my person. What I learned is that a person can learn a lot from others if they hear from someone’s experience rather than reading it off of a piece of paper. So far I have done the interview and everything, just have the summary to do. I feel like I have accomplished a lot from doing this one simple portfolio on health care and medical care access. I sometimes struggle with the parts of the timeline that we have to do and how we have to break it down so others will be able to access to the parts easily and as needed for their own research. If I could do this project over again, I might have widen the area a little bit. For example, I would not only get people from Scotland, Robeson, and Hoke county, but also from other parts of the state or maybe even country. This way, I believe we would get more information on health care and access to medical care and what not. This would strengthen my research and writing so others can see the views of the medical and health care around the state, country, or maybe even world.

Middle class shrinks

Looking back in class from the video we watched about “Not Just a Paycheck” I was surprised seeing so many people being unemployed due to the multiple factories closing down. I also saw how the middle class is shrinking as we progressing along in time. In the video, there was a lady who use to work in one of the factory, she lost her job in the factory cause it closed. She use to live near the lake, and as timing was progressing, the wealthier started to move there. She didn’t like, which I don’t happen to blame her, because than, in money wise, it increases which causes the middle class shrink! I ask everyone, why is this happening to the middle class people? What about the low class and the high class families?

I know eating fast food is very delicious but can also be EXTREMELY dangerous. Who can possibly eating nuggets continuously for the past 15 years? Stacy Irvine is that person. She is a nugget maniac. Since she was 2 years old, her mom made the biggest mistake of her life of giving her a chicken nugget. Since than, Stacy has been eating chicken nuggets till up to today (17 years old). Knowing the fact that she is risking her life, she still doesn’t take the name of letting go of that bad habit. It already has caused her problem before about her being anemic and breathing problems but she still is risking her life for some chicken nuggets.

I feel that eating chicken nuggets is a good thing IF it’s once in a week or so, but eating chicken nuggets every single day for the rest of your life is not risky but also life threatening to one’s body. I feel it’s a bad habit and extremely dangerous for oneself.
